Handley Page O/400

Pioneer and Early Aviation Aircraft

The Handley Page O/400 is a British heavy bomber biplane of the First World War, developed from the earlier Handley Page O/100 and entering squadron service around 1918 as one of the largest aircraft built during the war and among Britain's first purpose-built long-range night bombers. Capable of carrying a substantial bomb load for its era over considerable distances to strike targets in occupied Belgium and Germany, it represented a major step in the development of strategic long-range bombing, and after the war a number of surplus O/400s were converted into some of the earliest airliners used on pioneering commercial air routes in Europe.
