Amtrak Superliner

Passenger Rolling Stock and High-Speed Trainsets

The Superliner is a bi-level passenger railcar that Amtrak introduced in 1979 for its long-distance western routes, built with an upper level of seating and sleeping accommodations set above a lower level holding additional space, baggage and, on some cars, a dining or lounge area. Its two-story design gives passengers panoramic upper-level views on routes crossing mountainous and scenic terrain, and it has remained the standard passenger railcar on Amtrak's long-distance trains west of Chicago and New Orleans for decades.
