AIDAprima

Passenger and Ocean Liner Vessels

AIDAprima is the flagship of AIDA Cruises, built by Mitsubishi Heavy Industries in Nagasaki, Japan, and in service since April 2016 after several construction delays. She was the first AIDA vessel not built at Meyer Werft since AIDAaura in 2003 and the first Carnival Corporation vessel built by Mitsubishi since Sapphire Princess in 2004. Planned for delivery in the first half of 2015, she slipped to December 2015 after several minor accidents during construction, and she was christened in Hamburg on 7 May 2016 as part of the port anniversary celebrations. She is 300 metres long with a moulded beam of 37.6 metres, carries 3,300 passengers and 900 crew over 18 passenger decks, and has 15 dining options and a Beach Club pool area under a transparent UV-permeable dome. Three MaK 12VM43C diesel engines and one dual-fuel MaK 12VM46DF engine drive ABB Azipod units for a service speed of 22 knots, and an air lubrication system under the hull is predicted to cut fuel use and CO2 emissions by more than 7 percent.
