RMS Majestic (1889)

Passenger and Ocean Liner Vessels

RMS Majestic of 1889 was an ocean liner of the White Star Line, the sister ship of Teutonic, built by Harland and Wolff and launched in June 1889. She entered service in 1890 on the route from Liverpool to New York and took the Blue Riband for the fastest crossing in July 1891, a title her sister won from her two weeks later. Two triple expansion steam engines drove her twin propellers. She carried troops to the Cape during the Boer War, was refitted in 1902 and 1903 with new boilers and taller funnels, and served as a reserve ship before being sold for scrap in May 1914. She is distinct from the later White Star Majestic of 1922.
