RMS Adriatic

Passenger and Ocean Liner Vessels

RMS Adriatic was a British ocean liner of the White Star Line, the fourth and last of the Big Four ships, ordered from Harland and Wolff in Belfast in December 1903 and launched in September 1906. She was the largest, fastest and most luxurious of the four and the first ocean liner to carry an indoor swimming pool and Victorian-style Turkish baths. Quadruple expansion steam engines drove her two propellers. Her service began on the new route from Southampton to New York and from 1911 she also ran from Liverpool. She became a troop transport in 1917, was refitted several times and used increasingly for cruises, and was sold for scrapping at Osaka in 1935 after the Cunard and White Star merger.
