Boeing Model 6D

Flying Boats and Seaplanes

The Boeing Model 6D was an American pusher biplane flying boat built by Boeing between 1928 and 1929, also known as the Model 6E, the B-1D and the B-1E. It continued the numbering of the 1919 Boeing Model 6 but shared with it only the pusher flying-boat layout. Two aircraft were built between May 1928 and April 1929. The rectangular wooden hull was covered in spruce veneer, and the wings were taken from the Boeing Model 40 and shortened, with the engine and wooden propeller mounted on the lower side of the upper wing. The B-1D version used a 220 hp Wright J-5 Whirlwind radial engine and carried one crew member and three passengers. A slightly heavier, more robust version with a 410 hp Pratt and Whitney Wasp followed as the B-1E, Model 204 and Model 204A.
