Dornier Do S

Flying Boats and Seaplanes

The Dornier Do S was a 22-passenger all-metal flying boat airliner built by Dornier to replace the Do R 4 Superwal. It was a high-wing monoplane about seven to eight percent bigger than its predecessor in span and weight, with a much improved hull, a wing enlarged by sponsons and an auxiliary winglet, and four Hispano-Suiza V-12 engines mounted above the wing in push-pull pairs. First flown on 23 September 1931, it flew to Paris that November for the Salon, but no orders came and only one was built. It served as a hydrodynamic test vehicle until 1933 and was lost in the Baltic in 1935.
