Sikorsky S-36

Flying Boats and Seaplanes

The Sikorsky S-36 was an eight-seat amphibian sesquiplane designed and built by the Sikorsky Manufacturing Company in the late 1920s, ordered by Pan American Airways as the start of a long association with Sikorsky flying boats. A modified and larger version of the S-34, it was a commercial aircraft for six passengers or freight with a boat hull fuselage, retractable landing gear, a crew of two and two Wright Whirlwind J-5 engines. Only six were built, the fourth being delivered to Pan American in December 1927, and one named Dawn disappeared on an Atlantic attempt on 23 December 1927.
