Dornier was a German aircraft maker founded by Claude Dornier, a designer who had worked at the Zeppelin works. The firm became known for large all-metal flying boats such as the Do J Wal, the Do 18 and Do 24 and the giant twelve-engine Do X of 1929, as well as military aircraft of the Second World War. After the war the family business turned to light transports and later became part of Daimler-Benz Aerospace and then other aerospace groups.
