The Dornier Do 216 was a projected military large flying boat of the Dornier works in Germany. It was drawn up after work on the civil Dornier Do 214 had to be stopped, and it was a smaller military development of that design. Four Junkers Jumo 222 engines of 2,500 horsepower each were planned, or as an alternative six Daimler-Benz DB 603 engines of 1,750 horsepower each, driving tractor and pusher propellers on every wing. The hull was to be single-decked with glazed defensive gun positions, and the crew of ten included seven gunners for the three rear, two upper and two forward stands. The Reich Air Ministry turned the design down for lack of need, so the flying boat stayed on paper.
