Suzuki SV650

Motorcycles and Powered Two- and Three-Wheelers

The Suzuki SV650 and its variants are street motorcycles that Suzuki has manufactured since 1999. Suzuki introduced it as a budget entry in the emerging naked bike market, in naked and half-faired versions, and its light weight, rigid chassis, strong handling and the V-twin's mid-range torque appealed to beginners and experienced riders alike. American buyers wanted the sportier S version with lower handlebars, higher foot pegs and a bikini fairing, so Suzuki began importing the SV650S to the United States in 2000. The bike became popular with racers, prompting a rebirth of lightweight twins racing classes across North America, and it outsold the Suzuki GS500, Honda NT650 and Kawasaki Ninja 500R. The second generation of 2003 to 2008 had a new pressure-cast aluminium truss frame, and in 2009 Suzuki replaced the standard SV650 with the SFV650 Gladius, reverting to the SV650 name for 2017.
