The Suzuki GS500 is an entry-level motorcycle manufactured and sold by Suzuki Motor Corporation, with the GS500 and GS500E produced from 1989 on and the fully faired GS500F from 2004. It has an air-cooled parallel twin-cylinder engine derived from the earlier GS450, and for over twenty years it occupied the low end of Suzuki's mid-sized range. Motorcycle writers called it a best buy and an excellent first bike, with about 40 hp at the rear wheel, and restricted versions with a U suffix suited licence rules in some countries. The unfaired bike first went on sale in the UK in 1988, with a new frame and carburettors from the Mikuni Slingshot series. Suzuki stopped making the GS500E for the US market after 2002, and by 2016 the GS500 was built in Colombia for sale there and for export to Chile and Ecuador.
