Suzuki GR650

Motorcycles and Powered Two- and Three-Wheelers

The Suzuki GR650 is a two cylinder standard motorcycle that Suzuki built from 1983 to 1989. In the United States it was called the GR650 Tempter and was sold there only for the 1983 and 1984 model years, and Suzuki later used the Tempter name on a version of the ST400 sold in Japan and Europe. It was powered by a four stroke, air cooled DOHC parallel twin with a 180 degree crankshaft, a gear driven counter balancer and two Mikuni carburettors, and a sub intake port was added to swirl the mixture so that it could run leaner and save fuel. A two stage flywheel used a centrifugal clutch to drop a secondary flywheel above 3,000 rpm. At 178.5 kg dry it was lighter than most rivals. It came as the GR650D and GR650X, and modified examples served with the Australian Army and its military police.
