The Honda Sabre was a standard V4 motorcycle made by Honda from 1982 to 1985. The Sabre models and their marketing names were the VF750S V45 Sabre of 1982 and 1983, the VF700S 700 Sabre of 1984 and 1985, and the VF1100S V65 Sabre of 1984 and 1985. The V45 Sabre was introduced in 1982 with a V4 engine design shared with the Magna and Interceptor, and the Sabre and Magna engines were so similar as to be almost completely interchangeable apart from some fuel and carburation differences. The Interceptor engine was angled differently in the frame and had chain drive instead of shaft, but shared the same 90-degree-V four-cylinder DOHC configuration. The V4 combined the high-revving power of an inline four with the narrow width of a V-twin, and the 90-degree V gave perfect primary balance. Import tariffs changed in 1984, causing the V45 engine to be modified.
