Honda NC 700 S

The Honda NC 700 S is a half-faired road motorcycle from Honda with the internal model code RC 61. The letters NC stand for New Concept, and the bike was offered in three variants: S, SA with ABS and SD with DTC and ABS. Its engine is a long-stroke parallel twin of 670 cubic centimetres with a 90 degree crank pin offset, a bore of 73 millimetres, a stroke of 80 millimetres and a compression ratio of 10.7 to 1. It grew out of the engine of the Honda Jazz small car, cut down to two cylinders and tuned for motorcycle use, so it has a rev limit of 6,500 per minute and strong low and mid range torque, and it is tilted forward by 62 degrees to keep the centre of gravity low. Fuel use is given as 3.7 litres per 100 kilometres on the worldwide harmonised test cycle. Honda reports that it accelerates from 0 to 100 kilometres per hour in 5.8 seconds and reaches 160 kilometres per hour. Market surveys that Honda commissioned showed that riders spend over 90 percent of their time below 140 kilometres per hour, which led to a low-cost bike for everyday use with a helmet compartment where the tank would normally sit. It shares its platform with the NC 700 X and the NC 700 D Integra, and differs from the X by a lower seat and shorter suspension travel for road use.
