The Honda CB450 was a standard motorcycle that Honda built from 1965 to 1974 around a 444 cc 180-degree DOHC straight-twin engine producing 45 bhp, about 100 bhp per litre. It was Honda's first big motorcycle, though it failed to compete directly with the larger Triumphs, Nortons and Harley-Davidsons in North America, and that setback led Honda to develop the four-cylinder CB750 that opened the superbike era. Early models, nicknamed Black Bomber and Dragon, had a chrome-sided tank, and the engine used torsion bars instead of coil valve springs. The K1 model of 1968 added a five-speed gearbox and revised forks.
