Honda CB400SS

Motorcycles and Powered Two- and Three-Wheelers

The Honda CB400SS (model code BC-NC41) was a 400 cc class naked motorcycle that Honda Motor Co. built and sold from 2001 to 2008. Announced on 10 October 2001 and released the next day, it was developed from the 1998 NC38 CL400 and shared the semi-double-cradle frame, telescopic front and swingarm rear suspension and the NC38E air-cooled four-stroke four-valve SOHC single-cylinder engine with that sister model. The engine goes back to the export-only XR400R enduro engine, with a lower compression ratio of 8.8, a vacuum-operated carburettor, a smaller exhaust valve, a heavier flywheel and a secondary air system. SS first stood for Standard Single and from 2003 for Single Sports. It was started by an auto-decompression kick starter until a 2003 update added an electric starter, and it was the lightest model in its class at launch. Production ended in September 2008 because it did not meet tighter emission rules.
