The BMW R nineT is a standard motorcycle made by BMW Motorrad since 2014, a retro styled roadster that BMW marketed to custom builders and enthusiasts as a blank canvas for customizing. All variations have an air/oil-cooled oilhead flat twin 1,170 cc boxer engine with the inlet manifold at the rear of the cylinders and the exhaust at the front. Design elements allow easy modification, such as separate engine and chassis wiring harnesses and minimal bolts attaching the rear subframe, tail light and headlight, and the base R nineT has upside-down telescopic forks instead of BMW's usual Telelever. By 2017 there were five variations: the R nineT, the Pure, the Urban G/S, which echoes the R80G/S with a 19-inch front wheel, the Racer S cafe racer and the UK-only Sport. ABS is on all models, Automatic Stability Control was optional until it became standard in 2020, and in 2024 the R12 and R12 nineT replaced the R nineT with substantially the same engine.
