BMW R 100 R

The BMW R 100 R is a naked roadster motorcycle from BMW, designed mainly for the North American market and built at the Berlin plant until the end of 1996, 20,589 in all. It came from the Classic series of the early 1990s, the last use by BMW of air-cooled two-valve boxer engines, and a smaller sister model, the R 80 R, was also offered. Its air-cooled two-cylinder four-stroke boxer of about 980 cc, with a chain-driven low camshaft and pushrod rockers, gives 44 kW (60 PS) at 6,500 rpm on regular petrol through two constant-vacuum carburettors with transistor ignition. The drive goes through a single-plate dry clutch, a five-speed gearbox, a shaft and an angle gear to the rear wheel. The frame is a steel double-loop tube frame with a telescopic fork and a single-sided rear swingarm with Paralever torque support and one adjustable shock absorber, with two Brembo four-piston front discs on request and a drum brake at the rear. With its 24 litre tank full it weighs 218 kg, and the permitted gross weight is 465 kg.
