The BMW K 75 was a BMW Motorrad model line with a three-cylinder inline engine of 740 cm3 that was built from 1985 to 1996. Technically and visually it was based on the K 100, which had appeared two years earlier with four cylinders. To balance the vibrations of the engine with one cylinder fewer it was given a balance shaft, and unlike many motorcycles its engine and gearbox were separate units, as in a car. The water-cooled engine makes 55 kW (75 PS) at 8,500 rpm with two valves per cylinder, and the bike has a tubular space frame, a Monolever single-sided swingarm with shaft drive, a 21 litre tank and a top speed of 200 km/h. The variants were the basic K 75 without fairing, the K 75 C with a small handlebar fairing, the sporty K 75 S, the K 75 T touring version for the USA and the K 75 RT for the rest of the world. Many German states used the K 75 RT for police work, and the Bundeswehr used it as an escort motorcycle until 2004.
