The Suzuki TL1000R is a full-fairing, racing-oriented motorcycle that Suzuki introduced in 1998 as its 90 degree V-twin Superbike, with production ending in 2003. It is the faired version of the TL1000S, launched a year earlier, and was designed to compete in the World and American Superbike Championships and to take aim at the Ducati 916 in the series and in sales, although it achieved only one race win before Suzuki ended the TL racing programme in favour of the lighter GSX-R750. It shares the basic engine architecture of the S but has forged pistons, stronger connecting rods and a much stiffer frame, with hybrid chain and gear driven cams that gave the motor a gear whine. It was known for very good top-end horsepower and was offered in yellow, blue and white, black and red.
