Kawasaki Ninja ZX-12R

Motorcycles and Powered Two- and Three-Wheelers

The Kawasaki Ninja ZX-12R is a sport bike in the Ninja series that Kawasaki made from 2000 through 2006. Its 1,199 cc inline-four produced 178 hp, rising to 190 hp with ram air, making it the most powerful production motorcycle until 2006 and the arrival of the ZX-14. It was sold only as the ZX-12R and never as a ZZ-R1200, a name used for a separate bike. Its frame was the first monocoque aluminium backbone on a mass-produced motorcycle, and it had Kawasaki's first fuel-injected sport engine since the GPZ1100. Under a manufacturers' gentlemen's agreement its top speed was limited to about 300 km/h from the first model year, so it tied the Hayabusa and the ZX-14. Cycle World recorded 0 to 60 mph in 2.59 seconds. A 2002 update made 140 changes and radial brakes came in 2004.
