The Kawasaki ZX-11, sold in most markets as the ZZ-R1100, is a sport bike in the Ninja series that Kawasaki made from 1989 to 2001. It succeeded the 1988 to 1990 Tomcat ZX-10 and was itself replaced by the ZZ-R1200. With a top speed of about 272 to 283 km/h it was the fastest production motorcycle from its introduction until 1996, when the Honda CBR1100XX overtook it, and its 1989 C1 model was the first production motorcycle with a ram-air intake. The C model ran from 1989 to 1993 and the D model from 1993 to 2001. A 1997 test recorded a quarter mile in 10.43 seconds. Kawasaki later built the more track-focused Ninja ZX-12R, de-tuned before release after European governments threatened to ban very fast motorcycles, and the sport-touring ZZ-R1200 that took the ZX-11 line forward in 2002.
