The Honda XBR500 is a 500 cc Japanese sports motorcycle that Honda launched in 1985 in response to the Yamaha SR500. It is powered by a single-cylinder four-valve engine with its valve stems arranged radially around a hemispherical combustion chamber, Honda's Radial Four Valve Combustion Chamber, actuated by rockers and intermediate sub-rockers. The 498 cc engine produces 27 or 44 hp depending on market rules, has its origins in the XR off-road models and uses a quasi-dry sump with most of the oil in a separate tank below the seat. It has both electric and kick start, a 20 litre tank for a range well over 200 miles, and 18-inch Comstar wheels with tubeless tyres on most versions.
