The Honda VF1000F is a fully faired road motorcycle powered by a liquid-cooled 998 cubic centimetre V4 engine. Honda built it from 1984 until August 1987 under the factory code SC 15, and sales in North America began in March 1984, where bikes for that market carried the additional name Interceptor. The 90 degree V-four sits across the frame, with two chain-driven overhead camshafts working four valves per cylinder and four Keihin carburettors mixing the fuel. It is rated at 83 kilowatts, although the bikes delivered in Germany were sold at 74 kilowatts because the official importer limited output. Early engines suffered camshaft wear, overheating and water pump faults, so Honda reworked the machine in autumn 1984 with a second radiator and a larger pump, and for 1985 it also fitted an 18 inch front wheel in place of the 16 inch one and lengthened the wheelbase to 1,550 millimetres. The tank held 23 litres.
