Honda RC51

Motorcycles and Powered Two- and Three-Wheelers

The Honda RC51, also known as the RVT1000R in the United States and the VTR1000SP1 in Europe and Australia, is a 90-degree L-twin motorcycle that Honda produced from 2000 to 2006. Its engine is a 999 cc double overhead cam L-twin with two fuel injectors and four valves per cylinder, driving the rear wheel through a close-ratio six-speed transmission, in a twin-spar aluminium alloy chassis. The RC51 is a racing superbike that benefits from sprocket changes for street use, and the factory bikes were highly geared for top speed. It was designed as the motorcycle for Honda's racing teams in the Superbike World Championship, after 1988 rules allowed V-twins up to 999 cc to compete against the dominant 750 cc four-cylinder machines. The 2000 to 2001 models are designated SP1 and the 2002 to 2006 models SP2, which updated the fuel injection and suspension.
