The Honda RC161 is a 250 cc air-cooled DOHC inline-four racing motorcycle that Honda manufactured in 1960 and used in its first season in the 250 cc World Championship. It did not win a race, but the results were good enough for Honda to finish second in the Manufacturers' Championship. Honda had raced the 125 cc RC171 and its update the RC172 and the 250 cc RC160 in Japan and the 125 at the 1959 Isle of Man TT, and for 1960 both the 125 and 250 had been redesigned. Honda split its Japanese riders into two teams and drafted in Australians Bob Brown and Tom Phillis for their European experience. At the German Grand Prix Kenjiro Tanaka became the first rider to take a podium for Honda, finishing third.
