Honda NSR500V

Motorcycles and Powered Two- and Three-Wheelers

The Honda NSR500V is a race motorcycle in the Honda NSR series, designed and made by Honda Racing Corporation and debuted in 1996 in the 500 cc class of Grand Prix motorcycle racing. Honda conceived it as a viable machine for privateer teams to enter the class. Its water-cooled two-stroke 100-degree V-twin used the same crankcase reed-valve induction as the NSR500 V4 and also had a single crankshaft, and at 103 kg it produced a claimed 135 bhp on high-octane avgas. That was some 40 to 50 horsepower less than the V4, but it was lighter, easier to ride and better handling and could carry more corner speed, though it suffered in traffic. Tadayuki Okada put it on pole at its first race in Malaysia in 1996.
