The BMW R69, R69S and R69US are motorcycles fitted with 594 cc boxer twin engines that BMW manufactured in Munich, Germany. From 1955 to 1969, 15,347 of these shaft-drive, opposed-twin motorcycles were built: the 35 hp R69 from 1955 to 1960, the 42 hp R69S from 1960 to 1969 and the 42 hp R69US from 1968 to 1969. They were designed as relatively high powered, high compression sport bikes, although the Earles fork R69 and R69S came with sidecar lugs on the frames, which were deleted from the telescopic fork US models. The sport-oriented R69 range succeeded the plunger-framed R68 of 1951 to 1955, whose engine was very similar. The US models, introduced for the 1968 model year, used the telescopic forks later seen on the /5 series, and US-required side reflectors arrived for 1969.
