The BMW HP4 is a superbike motorcycle from the German maker BMW, developed from the S 1000 RR, presented in July 2012 and officially launched on 1 December 2012. It was produced at the Berlin-Spandau plant until 2014. The water- and oil-cooled four-cylinder four-stroke inline engine of 999 cc, with a bore of 80 mm, a stroke of 49.7 mm and a compression ratio of 13.0 to 1, gives 142 kW (193 PS) and a top speed of over 300 km/h, with titanium valves and a titanium exhaust that saves 4.5 kg. The aluminium composite bridge frame uses the engine as a stressed member, and electronic Dynamic Damping Control adjusts the compression and rebound damping of the shock and fork automatically; the HP4 was the first production motorcycle with this system. Race ABS with four modes is standard and the traction control was revised against the S 1000 RR. Ready to ride and 90 percent fuelled it weighs 199 kg, the tank holds 17.5 litres and BMW recommends 95 octane petrol. The carbon-framed HP4 Race of 2016 is a separate track bike.
