BMW HP2 Sport

Motorcycles and Powered Two- and Three-Wheelers

The BMW HP2 Sport is a boxer-engined sports motorcycle produced by BMW Motorrad from 2008 to 2010, the successor to the R1200S. Its engine is a 1,170 cc flat-twin oilhead with air-cooled cylinders and oil-cooled heads, derived from the R1200S engine as a DOHC eight-valve fuel-injected unit tuned for 133 horsepower (99 kW) at 8,750 rpm, the most powerful oilhead before BMW introduced liquid cooling for some of its flat twins in 2013. At 178 kg dry it is lighter and more powerful than the R1200S, and its tubular steel frame keeps the R1200S layout but replaces the rear subframe with a lightweight self-supporting carbon fibre seat unit. A quick shifter, Öhlins suspension, many carbon fibre parts, Brembo Monobloc calipers, forged aluminium wheels and Metzeler race tyres are standard, and Motor Cycle News called it BMW's finest sporting package.
