Honda Tact

Motorcycles and Powered Two- and Three-Wheelers

The Honda Tact is a long-running step-through scooter that Honda launched in Japan in September 1980. It was developed to win back leadership in the family motorcycle market from Yamaha after the rival Passol appeared, and sold about 380,000 units in its first year. Every generation has used a 49 cc gasoline engine in a low backbone or underbone frame with a belt-type continuously variable transmission, which places it in the moped class. Two-stroke engines powered the model from the 1980s into the 2000s, after which production paused, and the name returned in the 2010s with a four-stroke engine. Over the decades Honda sold many variants and badge-engineered relatives, special editions such as an Andre Courreges version of 1983, and sister models including the Giorno.
