The Honda Sky was a scooter that Honda Motor Co. built and sold. The name Sky was used as the sales name of two completely different models made in Japan and in Italy. The Japanese model, with the type name AB14 and model name NC50C, went on sale on 15 April 1982 as the lightest scooter in Japan, with a dry weight of 39 kg. It has an air-cooled two-stroke single-cylinder engine of 49 cc and an automatic transmission, and under Japanese law it falls into the first class of motorised bicycle. Its light weight was meant to let women move and park the vehicle easily, and it keeps a wide floor space despite a slim floor step width of 0.285 m, with a large, low, comfortable seat. A partial improvement in November 1982 improved output and fuel economy, cut dry weight to 37 kg for the kick-start version, added vibration-isolating links and added a self-starter with an auto choke.
