The BMW C1 was an enclosed scooter made by Bertone for BMW that offered extra safety features and protection from the elements compared with a conventional scooter, with a car-type seat, a four-point seat belt and a feet-forward riding posture. Introduced in 2000 and sold throughout Europe, it sold disappointingly and was discontinued in 2002, and an electric C1-E was presented as a concept in 2009. It was available from May 2000 as the 125, with a 125 cc four-valve, four-stroke, water-cooled, fuel-injected engine producing 15 bhp (11 kW), and from 2001 as the 200, with a 176 cc engine producing 18 bhp (13 kW). Both Rotax engines drove through a CVT gearbox and both models weighed about 185 kg, and the bike was arguably underpowered, a Motorcycle News review noting it was heavy at 185 kg.
