Kawasaki KLR250

Motorcycles and Powered Two- and Three-Wheelers

The Kawasaki KLR250, also called the KL250D, is a lightweight dual-sport motorcycle that Kawasaki built in Japan from 1984 to 2005 as the successor to the 1978 to 1983 KL250C, with only minor changes during its run. It has a liquid-cooled, four-stroke, single-cylinder engine of 249 cc with double overhead camshafts and four valves, a six-speed gearbox, a Uni-Trak single-shock rear suspension and a dry weight of 117 kg. The United States military used it for messenger duty and reconnaissance, the New Zealand Defence Force used it for light infantry, scouts and signallers, and the Carabineros de Chile police made extensive use of it. It looks like the larger KLR650 and shares many engine parts with the Kawasaki KSF250 Mojave ATV. In the US it ended with the 2005 model run and was replaced by the KLX250S in 2006.
