Honda CR480

Motorcycles and Powered Two- and Three-Wheelers

The Honda CR480R is a motocross racing motorcycle that Honda made in 1982 and 1983, replacing the CR450 that was made only in 1981. The 1982 bike had a front drum brake and a four-speed gearbox, and the 1983 bike had internally adjustable front forks and a five-speed gearbox. Danny Chandler rode a CR480 to win the 1982 ABC Sports Superbikers race, in which professional racers from different disciplines competed on a combined dirt and paved track, and Steve Wise also won a Superbikers race on one; the race was a precursor of modern supermoto racing. The 1982 bike had about 52 horsepower for a weight of about 226 pounds, with magnesium parts and a hand-riveted airbox, and it is popular with historic racers.
