The Honda CR250M is a two-stroke single-cylinder motorcycle that Honda manufactured from March 1973 until 1976, when it was replaced by the CR250R. It grew out of Honda's decision, after pulling out of motorcycle racing in 1967, to put its idle world-class development team to work on a lightweight two-stroke motocross machine, even though Soichiro Honda had publicly said Honda would never build two-strokes. A prototype shown at a National Championship motocross race in Mine, Yamaguchi, in August 1971 was recognised as a Honda, and Soichiro Honda reluctantly backed producing both a works racer and an out-of-the-box version. Designed by Soichiro Miyakoshi, it had a 29 horsepower engine and weighed 229 pounds.
