BMW G450X

Motorcycles and Powered Two- and Three-Wheelers

The G450X was an enduro-class motorcycle that BMW Motorrad produced between 2008 and 2011. The project began with BMW Motorrad's wish to capture a share of the 450 four-stroke enduro class from established makers including the Japanese big four and KTM. After the poor sales of the F650GS-derived G650X Challenge, which BMW put down partly to excessive weight and unconventional suspension, the design brief asked for at least as much power and torque as the Japanese and Austrian competition, a lighter and more compact machine, and closer adherence to the design conventions of the class. BMW meant to position it as both an enduro and a viable dual-sport bike, but its narrow seat, low fuel capacity, small headlight and lack of wind protection made that questionable, and with the G650GS and twin-cylinder F650GS already on sale it was recognisable as an enduro-only machine.
