The Honda Z50J is a motorcycle that Honda produced as part of its Z series family of minibikes, with early versions from 1972 to 1978 sometimes called the Z50J1. The J series came after the M series of 1966 to 1969, but the very first Honda Monkey was the Z100 of 1961, made for the Tama Tech amusement park in Tokyo and followed by the commercial CZ100 in 1964. The Z50J1 began production in 1973 and was sold as a 1974 model for the European and Japanese markets, mostly the same as the American Z50A produced since 1972. In 1978, when Honda dropped the Z50A from its American lineup, the European Z50 evolved with a new drop-shaped tank and bicycle-style seat, the Z50J2, produced until 1999. Finland had its own edition through the 1980s to 1999, registered as a moped, with BMX-style handlebars and 6 volt lighting.
