The Suzuki GSX-R750, introduced in 1985, was a sport motorcycle built to bring genuine racetrack technology to a machine buyers could ride on the street, using an aluminum frame and an oil-cooled inline four-cylinder engine to keep weight far below that of its steel-framed contemporaries. Its combination of light weight, race-derived bodywork and strong power output made it an immediate benchmark for the emerging category of repli-racer sport motorcycles, and Suzuki continued to develop the GSX-R750 across many generations as both a road bike and a platform for production-based racing. The model is widely credited with popularizing the modern sport bike format that later spread across the Japanese manufacturers' lineups.
