Honda brought in the Shadow VT700C of 700cc for the US market alone in 1984, to answer tariffs on Japanese motorcycles with engines over 700cc, and cut the bore of the 45 degree V-twin by 3 millimetres to create the smaller RC19E engine. The VT750C remained available in Canada for 1984 nearly unchanged. The VT500C of 1984 had its fuel tank and rear fenders painted alike, with side covers and engine covers in black.
