The basic 1978 CX500 made 48 hp and had a large fuel tank, a plastic mini fairing that looked unusual at the time, a stepped seat and a round brake fluid reservoir, with the turn signals extending out through the fairing. The CX500 Standard had silver ComStar wheels, and the CX was the first motorcycle Honda ever built with a V-twin engine. The CX500 was also the first production motorcycle with tubeless tires on such wheels.
