The BMW R100 was a series of BMW motorcycles using a two-cylinder four-stroke boxer engine of 980 cc, with variants designated T, S, CS, RS, RS Classic, RT, RT Classic, TIC, TC, R and GS. Model production began in 1976, was shut down prematurely and restarted in 1985, and the series was completed in 1996, making it the last of the airhead boxers; the same article also covers the smaller /7 models R60, R75 and R80. The first /7 range was an evolutionary change of the BMW 247 engine from the slash six and initially comprised the R100RS, R100S, R100, R75/7 and R60/7. The R100RS was the first motorcycle manufactured in volume with a frame-fixed full fairing as standard, giving birth to the modern sport touring motorcycle. The R100 models had double front disc brakes, with a Brembo fixed caliper from 1980 models and the Monolever from 1986, and cast aluminium wheels replaced wire wheels in September 1977.
