BMW R 25

Motorcycles and Powered Two- and Three-Wheelers

The BMW R 25 was a single-cylinder motorcycle that followed the 12 PS R 24 in the early 1950s and itself made 12 PS. It was presented to the BMW board on 16 February 1949 as a development of the R 24 with rear suspension, entered series production in May 1950 at 1,750 Deutsche Mark, and was replaced by the R 25/2 in October 1951 after 23,400 had been built. It had a longitudinally mounted four-stroke single with a side camshaft and pushrod-operated overhead valves, a Bing carburettor, a welded double-tube steel frame, shaft drive to the rear wheel and 19 inch wheels with half-hub brakes. The same layout, an upright 250 cubic centimetre cylinder with shaft drive, was developed in several later BMW models until 1965.
