The BMW /5 series comprised the R50/5, R60/5 and R75/5, a range of boxer twin motorcycles manufactured in Berlin, Germany, by BMW for model years 1970 to 1973 and featuring electric starting and telescopic forks. For 1970 BMW launched three models of 500, 600 and 750 cc, and the R75/5 could reach 110 mph (177 km/h). It was the first series built completely in Berlin, because by 1969 all of Munich's production capacity was needed for automobiles, and it was a new design with a modular construction from the suspension to the flat-twin power unit. Production rose five-fold in three years, from 12,287 units in 1970 to 68,956 by July 1973, when the series ended, and the /6 models replaced it in 1974. All /5 models kept a kickstarter beside the electric starter, and the air-cooled four-stroke boxer engines had hemispherical combustion chambers and a camshaft driven by a duplex chain below the crankshaft.
