Suzuki Madura

Motorcycles and Powered Two- and Three-Wheelers

The Suzuki Madura was a V-four cruiser motorcycle that Suzuki sold in 1985 and 1986 with a 1200 cc or a 700 cc engine. It was created as a response to Honda's Magna V4 muscle cruiser and competed directly with Yamaha's V-Max power cruiser, also released in 1985. The big Madura displaced 1,165 cc against the 1,098 cc of the V65 Magna, yet it made no more power or torque: the 1200 was rated at 117 hp against 116 hp for the Magna, and about 89 horsepower was measured on a road-tested bike. It had hydraulic lifters, a self-adjusting hydraulic clutch, shaft final drive and a monoshock rear suspension whose single swingarm tube carried the driveshaft. Production was halted after two years, with 5,099 built according to one reported figure.
