Kawasaki Vulcan 900 Classic

Motorcycles and Powered Two- and Three-Wheelers

The Kawasaki Vulcan 900 Classic, model VN900B, is a mid-sized cruiser motorcycle that Kawasaki first introduced in 2006. It follows the formula of fitting a smaller yet capable engine into a frame one size up, a combination also used by Honda, Suzuki and Yamaha in their own cruiser lines. The boulevard-style machine looks similar to the Harley-Davidson Softail Deluxe or Fat Boy and is powered by a liquid-cooled 903 cc V-twin with a five-speed transmission, electronic fuel injection, floorboards, front and rear disc brakes and a belt final drive. Its 20 litre tank was the largest in its class, and until Yamaha introduced the air-cooled 942 cc V-Star 950 in September 2008 its engine was the largest among mid-sized cruisers. The press received it favourably for its presence, equipment and low seat height, while noting limited cornering clearance, a relatively weak rear disc brake and in some tests an uncomfortable seat. Variants are the VN900D touring edition with windshield, saddlebags and backrest, and the VN900C Custom with cast wheels and forward controls.
