The Honda Shadow VT600C, also known as the Shadow VLX, is a cruiser motorcycle that Honda made from 1988 through 2008. It has a 583 cc liquid-cooled V-twin engine borrowed from the Honda Transalp, a four-speed gearbox that became a five-speed in 1999, a 35-degree rake, chain drive and a single-shock softail-style rear suspension. The VLX name comes from the initials for V-twin and lowered, with an X for extended rake. The Shadow VT600C was also produced in Brazil from 1998 to 2005. Motorcyclist magazine's Aaron P. Frank included the Shadow VT600C in a 2003 list of America's 50 best used bikes, saying no better middleweight cruiser could be had for 3,500 dollars and that the engine was asthmatic but ran forever.
