BMW R18

Motorcycles and Powered Two- and Three-Wheelers

The BMW R18 is a cruiser motorcycle that BMW Motorrad officially introduced in April 2020 and launched in September 2020 in Germany; because of the COVID-19 pandemic it was presented virtually on the internet. BMW started development in 2015, and the design and visible technique are mainly based on the 1936 BMW R5. It is BMW's second attempt, after the R1200C, at the heavy cruiser segment dominated by Harley-Davidson, Indian, Triumph, Moto Guzzi and the Japanese makers, with a conversion-friendly design for the custom bike scene like the R nineT. It has a double-loop tubular steel frame, exposed propshaft and spoked wheels, and a cantilever rear swingarm that hides its bearings and spring unit to look like a rigid frame. It is powered by a newly developed air and oil-cooled 1,802 cc two-cylinder boxer producing 91 hp (68 kW), the largest two-cylinder boxer BMW has built, with fuel injection, cornering ABS and upside-down forks.
