BMW R 80 RT

The BMW R 80 RT was a BMW touring motorcycle with a two-cylinder four-stroke boxer engine of 797 cc and shaft drive to the rear wheel, built from 1982 to 1995 with 29,384 made in all. As a tourer, the RT standing for touring, it carried a large full fairing with a tall windscreen, and its 37 kilowatt (50 horsepower) engine came from the R 80/7. The 1982 to 1984 model years were essentially a cut-down version of the larger R 100 RT with the engine in its frame, with plain paint, a drum rear brake and optional extras for clock, voltmeter and luggage racks; 7,315 were made. From 1984 the Monolever single-sided swinging arm, an 18 inch front wheel and a reworked design replaced the twin-shock rear, and 22,069 of those were built.
